English Teaching
For me, teaching English is more than just working on linguistic structures or developing communication skills. It is about creating spaces in which language becomes a tool for expression, experimentation and encountering different ways of seeing the world. My work in this field combines teaching, research and writing, on a journey characterised by an interest in pedagogical practices that value collaboration, creativity, autonomy and the active participation of students.
This perspective is reflected in the article ‘Lightning! Experimentando ensinar inglês e escrita criativa de microficção por meio da abordagem de tarefas’ (2022), in which Pedro Lucas P. Santos, Fernando Silva de Jesus and I report on a teaching experience that brings language learning and literary creation closer together. By exploring microfiction as a genre for teaching English, we sought to demonstrate how creative writing can broaden the possibilities for language use, transforming the classroom into a space for imagination, reflection and the construction of meaning.

This article presents the development, implementation and analysis of the results of a mini-course on creative writing of micro-stories in English. Entitled ‘Oficina Lightning’ and delivered remotely as part of the Supervised Curricular Placement activities for the Bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature (UNEB, Campus IV-Jacobina), the course was based on a task-based approach, an active methodology focused on language teaching in contexts of authentic language use. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the classes were held remotely via Google platforms between May and June 2021. Lasting 40 hours, the activities were organised into four blocks, drawing on Nunan (2004) and González-Lloret and Ortega (2014) for the construction of the task cycle; and on Smith (2013), Carvalho (2017), Nelles (2012) and Hartigan and James (2014) for the conceptualisation and application of the micro-story genre in the classroom. The mini-course resulted in the publication of nine original micro-stories on Instagram, covering a variety of literary genres and styles.
